ARVDC – The WorldVegetableCenter is a non profit, autonomous international agricultural research  center with headquarter in Taiwan and regional offices around the globe. ARVDC conducts research and development programs that contribute to improved incomes and diets in the developing world. AR VDC – RCA is seeking two diligent and reliable Mali nationals for the position of Research Assistant for its pan – African program on Vegetable Breeding and Seed Systems for poverty Reduction in Africa (VBSS).

Key Responsibilities

Tje selected candidates would work closely with the Program’s Vegetable Breeders tot support the program’s national breeding unit (NBU) to develop and release new vegetable varieties. Specific duties would include but are limited to :

Assist with all aspects of the vegetable breeding project as outlined by the vegetable breeder ;
Manage seed harvests and see inventory ;

Execute seed requests and shipments at the instruction or approval of the vegetable breeder ;

Cooperate with other research assistant, National Breeding Units, RCA and Headquarters’ regarding interdisciplinary activities ;

Assist input and statistical analysis of research results, and actively prepare summary reports of research finding in French/English ;

Assume responsibility for particular activities, including crossing blocks, assays, selections, generation advance, trials, and report preparation, in consultation with the vegetable breeder ;

Assist in development and management of databases for inbred lines, hybrids, and other information generated from the program ;

Maintain computer files safely, with regular backups and archiving

Qualifications

At lest a BSc or MSc plant breeding, genetics, horticulture, agronomy, plant science, or related discipline ;
Working knowledge of vegetable crops, breeding, or related skills, Familiarity with molecular markets is desirable

Proficiency with the MS Office computer software ;

Detail oriented and able to work with little or no supervision ;

Excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency in spoken and written French/English ;

Willing to work outdoors in adverse weather condition’s
