Job: Title:      Regional Emergency Officer for West Africa

Salary:            Gross salary based on experience: FCFA 18,000,000 – 24,000,000 (currently approx $39,560 – 52,747) pa plus benefits

Location:       Based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Duration:       Open ended contract

This is an exciting opportunity to lead Christian Aid’s humanitarian work in West  Africa.  Working closely with the country teams in Burkina FasoMali, Senegal, Niger, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, you will improve Christian Aid’s partners’ ability to prepare for and reduce the impact of disasters.  Travelling up to six months a year for up to 3 months at a time (normally 3-8 weeks), you will manage, design and monitor Christian Aid’s responses to disasters in the region, working closely with Christian Aid staff and partners to help them respond quickly, effectively and professionally, and ensure programmes are well managed to their conclusion. 

With considerable experience of humanitarian responses in a number of settings, some in West Africa, you will have a proven track record of: managing emergency programmes, disaster risk reduction, senior representation with donors and other agencies, and developing proposals and reports for donors.  You will have extensive experience of applying Sphere standards and the NGO Code of Conduct in emergencies, and particular knowledge of HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction or accountability to beneficiaries in humanitarian programmes.  You will be fluent in French and English, and will have worked through local partners.

The post is based in Christian Aid’s office in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Applications are open to both Burkinabe nationals and other nationals ideally from countries within the West region. (he post will be unaccompanied for any applicant appointed from outside Burkina Faso.)
